Catering Competition

Entry Requirements

This competition is for learners working at Entry Level 2. Competitors must be 16 years of age or over. A maximum of 2 competitors per organisation may enter. Applications to be made via your regional competition lead. A statement of support that outlines any individual needs of the competitor within the competitor must be submitted along with entry form.

Competition Task

Competitors will be required to prepare a sandwich of choice & trio of desserts for two, with a Welsh theme.

This competition will test competitors knowledge and skills in the following areas; Health & Safety, hygiene, knife skills, use of equipment, presentation skills and knowledge of flavour combinations.

Competitors will be given 1 hour and 15 minutes to prepare a sandwich of choice and a “Trio of Desserts” with a Welsh Theme for two people, plated separately.

Trio to Include:

  • A decorated cupcake
  • A meringue nest topped with cream & fruit
  • Miniature dessert of your choice

To be provided by the host:

  • Equipment (unless stated) will be provided
  • Pre-made cupcakes
  • Pre-made meringues
  • Brown & White Bread
  • Butter

To be provided by the Competitor

  • Competitors must provide their own uniform & PPE
  • Plates & platters (x2) of your own choice to present each serving of the trio of desserts
  • Ingredients additional to the cupcake, meringue, bread & butter i.e. cream (un-whipped) edible decoration, butter cream, sandwhich filling & fruit
  • All ingredients for the dessert of your own choice
  • Display equipment for your own dessert choice

The trio must be designed the same for each serving.

Restaurant Service Competition

Entry Requirements

The competition is for learners working at Entry Level 1. Competitors must be 16 years of age or over. A maximum of 2 competitors per organisation may enter. A statement of support that outlines any individual needs of the competitor within the competition must be submitted along with entry form.

Competition Task

Competitor will be required to set a table for 2, for a main course, to fit a “Santes Dwynwen” Theme.

The table will be a size suitable to seat 2 people (the shape of the table may be square, round or rectangular).

Competitors will have 30 minutes to complete this task:

  • Wipe / clean table
  • Polish and place cutlery (using a cloth)
  • Each setting to include a water glass & napkin (paper napkins to be provided)
  • Setting to include decoration to fit with the “Santes Dwynwen” theme

To be provided by host:

  • Cloth & spray to wipe table
  • Cutlery: 2 mains knives, 2 mains forks, 2 water glasses, 2 plain paper napkins, cloth & hot water for polishing cutlery, side table to hold equipment

To be provided by competitor:

  • Table decoration
  • Competitor uniform
  • Alternative napkins if required (paper or linen)
  • Table cloth (if required)
