About Us
The Derwen Garden Centre is a family owned, and run, operation. We were founded in 1996 by the Joseph family, originally as an arm of the plant wholesaler Dingle Nurseries, just up the road in Frochas. We are operated by a small group of dynamic, hard-working individuals, who thrive working together as part of a team. Our ethos is to provide excellent customer service, ensuring everything we sell is of exceptional quality from the plants to the gifts in the shop, of course this also applies to the restaurant. Since the first national lockdown we have hired a new chef who is taking the restaurant in an exciting new direction, facing the challenge of creating a sensational menu while still satisfying the traditional clientele expected at a garden centre eatery.

We recognise that the Derwen is a destination, with people travelling from afar to visit us for the day, and so we are eager to create an experience for our customers. The restaurant is part of the package that they come for. Our aim is for it to be more than a refuelling station, we want it to be part of the reason people make the journey to visit us. In wake of the climate crisis, we are always looking for ways to minimise our negative impact on the environment. This includes implementing renewable energy sources, considering the origins of the products we sell, and cutting down on waste in all forms. This is one of the reasons we pride ourselves on selling local and free-range foods wherever possible. We see this as a company’s duty and hope that through our actions we can be part of the solution to the problems we face as a society.
