Waste Management could be defined as the collection, transport and disposal, and the final management of waste and recyclables, including the supervision of such operations, and after care of disposal sites, including actions taken as a broker and dealer.
The core activities within the industry are;
- Waste collection and transport;
- Transfer stations, Household Waste & Recycling Centres;
- Energy from waste (including thermal recovery processes and anaerobic digestion);
- Recycling, processing and specialist operations
According to RecycleNow, UK recycling saves more than 18 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year – equivalent to taking 5 million cars off the road.
Training and Apprenticeships
Training in the waste management and recycling industry is delivered in a wide range of forms. The Qualification Credit Framework provides a simple and rational framework that presents learner achievement and qualifications in a way that is easy to understand, measure and compare.
It aims to give individuals the opportunity to learn in a more flexible way and enables a wider range of organisations, including employers, to have their training recognised.
Cambrian Training Company is an approved centre with Edexcel for the delivery of training in Sustainable Resource Management.
Within this framework there are four qualifications available;
- Level 2 & 3 in Sustainable Recycling Activities
- Level 4 in Systems and Operations Management
- Level 4 in Systems and Operations Management (small scale operations)
Our experienced Training Officers can help employees choose the right course at the appropriate level to develop their skills and knowledge. These qualifications are delivered in the workplace.
The Apprenticeship, Traineeship and Jobs Growth Wales Programmes, led by the Welsh Government, are supported by the European Social Fund. For further information regarding this, please click here »
