Apprenticeships form an important part of developing skills and training in the workplace in Wales no matter what sector you are in or how large or small your business is. The Welsh apprenticeship system already delivers on quality, with framework completion rates of over 80%, and continually meets employer needs.
Since April 2017, changes in the way apprenticeships are now funded within the UK has impacted businesses in Wales. However, the Welsh Government has stressed that its commitment to apprenticeships remains unchanged and all employers will continue to have access to its apprenticeship programme.
What is the Apprenticeship Levy?
The Levy will be collected from any employer with a pay bill of £3million or more annually. From this, 0.5% will go towards paying the levy, although there is a yearly allowance of £15,000.
Money raised from the Levy will be invested back into apprenticeships, focusing on raising awareness and demand for apprenticeships and workforce development.
In Wales, businesses will continue to access their apprenticeship delivery through the existing Welsh Government procurement network of quality assured training providers, such as Cambrian Training. This system ensures meeting the needs and priorities of Wales by focusing on quality and value for money.
Recruiting
Recruiting new apprentices will allow employers to balance the cost of the Levy with the potential of gaining access to additional funding. Our apprenticeship programme is open to all employers across Wales.
