The dedication of apprentice butcher Kane Deacon-Roberts, who is dyslexic, has been hailed by his employer.

Kane, 25, who lives in Cwmbran, has overcome many barriers in his life, including dyslexia, to carve out a promising career with NS James Limited in Raglan.

“I enjoy working with food and my boss Neil is a great bloke to work for. An apprenticeship suits me because it is work-based, hands on and you learn in your job. Hard work does pay off.”

Despite not doing well at school, he is finding that work-based learning is right up his street and is thriving in a job that he really loves, as he works towards a Foundation Apprenticeship in Meat and Poultry Industry Skills.

Kane has developed a new line of ready to cook products which are selling well and his supportive boss, Neil James, describes him as a “young man with huge potential”.

The Apprenticeship Programme in Wales is funded by the Welsh Government with support from the European Social Fund.

“Kane is an outstanding individual who is demonstrating what can be achieved through an apprenticeship, even through personal hardships.” states Arwyn Watkins, Cambrian Training’s Managing Director.
