Supporting Success for all learners at Cambrian Training Company

At Cambrian Training Company we are proud to support apprentices from all walks of life; including those returning to study after a gap of many years, learners with additional learning needs or disabilities and those with diverse linguistic backgrounds.

Initially, we begin by understanding each apprentice’s prior experience, learning style, and career goals. Part of my job role as the ALNCo, is to have an open conversation with the apprentice when they begin their journey with us, – not just about their individual challenges, but about their strengths, preferences, and goals.

Here at CTC, we use a person-centred approach, which means that the apprentice is at the heart of the support plan that is created for them. We listen carefully to how they learn best, what support has worked in the past, and what they want to achieve. This process allows us to tailor the support to their individual needs and allows us to write an ‘additional learning needs plan’ that outlines their specific preferences and the most successful strategies to use with the apprentice.

The support for an apprentice starts from day one, as the training officers and tutors at CTC are skilled in using inclusive teaching strategies and approaches and they adapt their style to meet the needs of the learner. For example, using tools like assistive technology, multimodal learning approaches or extra time when needed. This, together with regular check-ins, help the apprentices to progress confidently during their qualification.

Additionally, the training team collaborate closely with their employer, to ensure that the support is joined-up and consistent, both in the workplace and during the training sessions.

Ultimately, our goal is to empower all adult apprentices to thrive – not just in their training, but in their careers. By meeting them where they are and supporting them every step of the way, we help build skilled, confident professionals for the future.
