During Learning Disability Week 2026, we are proud to celebrate apprentices like Morgan, whose journey shows how the right support, inclusive employers and personal determination can create life-changing opportunities.
At Cambrian Training Company, we believe every learner deserves the chance to grow, achieve and build a future through apprenticeships. Morgan’s success is a brilliant example of what can happen when talent is recognised and supported.
Finding the Right Opportunity
Morgan originally applied for a role at Princess of Wales Hospital but was unsuccessful. However, while carrying out work experience in the Co-op nearby the hospital after Easter last year, a new opportunity arose.
The store manager, Lindsay, recognised Morgan’s potential and offered him a job — an opportunity he gladly accepted. Today, Morgan works three days a week for 16 hours, helping with the following:
- Stock replenishment
- Price checking
- Date coding
- Supporting customers with their needs
A Standout Apprentice
Morgan successfully completed his Level 2 Retail Apprenticeship on time in February, consistently submitting his work punctually and maintaining excellent standards throughout his learning journey.
His assessor described him as having a customer-focused attitude and an excellent work ethic. Morgan has become a valued member of the team, known for helping customers and readily supporting his colleagues.
With his keen eye for detail and methodical approach, Morgan has been given responsibility for checking stock dates, reducing products when needed and removing items from sale.
Learning That Works
Morgan particularly enjoyed the practical side of his apprenticeship.
He said the part he enjoyed most was the “show and tell” sessions with his Training Officer, Christine, where he could demonstrate his skills, talk through his work on recordings and reflect on what he had learnt from his experience on the shop floor.
This shows how flexible, learner-focused training can help apprentices build confidence whilst showcasing their strengths.
Work/Life Balance
Outside of the workplace, Morgan leads a busy life. He enjoys theatre productions, ballroom dancing and running marathons.
Those who work with Morgan describe him as hardworking, polite and always willing to help others. They also praise his cheerful nature, optimism and determination to overcome challenges in and outside the workplace with a smile.
Support That Makes a Difference
Morgan’s story reflects what Cambrian Training Company is passionate about — helping learners across Wales achieve success through practical training, encouragement and genuine opportunities with supportive employers.
With the backing of his managers, his training team and his own dedication, Morgan has secured employment and gained a recognised qualification.
That is an achievement to celebrate.
