Our Story
Cambrian Training Ltd has been helping businesses and individuals grow since 1995. Founded in Welshpool, Powys, as a subsidiary of Mid Wales Tourism, the company was originally established to deliver vocational training to support the tourism sector in Mid Wales.
Named after the iconic Cambrian Mountains, the company has always been rooted in the communities, people, and businesses of rural Wales. With agriculture in decline and rural depopulation on the rise, the need for re-skilling and vocational training became more important than ever—and Cambrian Training stepped in to help strengthen economic opportunities.
By the early 2000s, Cambrian Training had built a strong reputation across the UK for delivering high-quality training and development programmes. In 2002, a management buy-out made the company fully independent, setting the stage for expansion into new industries including hospitality, food and drink, manufacturing, retail, business administration, financial services, childcare, and health and social care.
Today, Cambrian Training operates across Wales with a purpose-built headquarters in Welshpool and regional offices in Holyhead, Colwyn Bay, and Llanelli.
Our Mission
Engage. Inspire. Succeed.
We engage with young people, learners, and employers across Wales to deliver high-quality training and apprenticeship programmes. Our aim is to inspire individuals, businesses, and communities to achieve their career, business, and life goals.
Dream it. Learn it. Live it.
We believe that every apprenticeship journey is a chance to achieve dreams. By learning new skills, gaining knowledge, and building experience, our learners are empowered to live up to their full potential.
Cambrian Training is committed to delivering inclusive apprenticeship opportunities that support individuals facing barriers to employment, including those with disabilities. Through tailored support and meaningful employer engagement across Wales, we’ve helped learners transition into sustained employment and formal apprenticeships with targeted support.
We are also passionate about promoting the Welsh language, and all of our apprenticeships can be delivered bilingually or fully in Welsh.
A Journey of Growth
From its early days focused on tourism, Cambrian Training has continually adapted to meet the needs of employers and learners. Partnerships with businesses like Stena Line helped provide stability and growth in the company’s formative years.
In 2002, the management buy-out gave the team ownership and a renewed drive to expand across Wales and beyond. This moment marked the beginning of Cambrian Training’s transformation into a leading all-Wales training provider.
Over the years, Cambrian Training has been recognised for its achievements, winning Apprenticeship Training Provider of the Year twice. In 2018, the company’s leadership was further recognised when its then Managing Director who led the management buy-out was awarded an OBE for services to education and training in Wales.
Our People
Cambrian Training’s greatest strength is its people. As a people-focused business, we understand the importance of having skilled, passionate staff who know their industries inside out. All our trainers come directly from the sectors they now support, ensuring learners receive hands-on, real-world expertise.
We’ve always believed in the principle of “pasture to plate”—connecting industries and people through every stage of the supply chain. That vision has guided our growth, shaped our training programmes, and built lasting partnerships with employers across Wales.
Employee Ownership – A Future Built Together
In 2025, Cambrian Training took another historic step by becoming 100% employee-owned. This move reflects our long-held belief that the company’s success is built on its people.
By creating an Employee Ownership Trust, every member of staff now has a stake in Cambrian Training’s future. Just as the management buy-out in 2002 ignited a fire to grow the business, employee ownership is designed to inspire the next generation of staff to carry forward the same passion and commitment.
Why Apprenticeships Matter
We believe apprenticeships are one of the most powerful ways to learn. They allow individuals of all ages—not just school leavers—to gain skills, experience, and confidence while working. Apprenticeships are for everyone, whether you’re 16 or 40, starting out or retraining for a new career.
For employers, apprenticeships create a skilled workforce, strengthen industries, and boost economic growth. For individuals, they provide the tools to succeed in their careers and their lives.
At Cambrian Training, we remain committed to championing apprenticeships and raising their profile as a respected and rewarding route to success.
