At Cambrian Training Company, we are committed to helping young people across Wales discover meaningful career pathways through practical, engaging learning experiences. As part of Apprenticeship Week Wales, our hospitality training team delivered interactive cookery workshops at Ysgol Bro Caereinion Secondary Phase, giving pupils aged 13–16 the opportunity to develop real kitchen skills while exploring the wider world of hospitality careers. The sessions introduced learners to classic Welsh dishes such as soda bread, vegetarian cawl and Welsh rarebit, but more importantly, they provided insight into food safety, preparation techniques, teamwork and the professional standards expected within the industry.
The workshops were designed not simply as cooking demonstrations but as a bridge between education and employment, helping pupils understand how subjects studied in school can translate into rewarding careers. Hospitality is one of Wales’ most vibrant and accessible industries, offering structured apprenticeship pathways, nationally recognised qualifications and long-term progression into supervisory and management roles. For many young people, particularly those who thrive in hands-on environments, this route can provide confidence, independence and clear direction after leaving school.
To extend the impact of the workshops beyond one school, the sessions have been professionally filmed and will be developed into a learning resource to be shared with secondary schools across Wales. The cookery skills video will support Food Technology and careers education, offering teachers an engaging way to introduce hospitality apprenticeships and vocational training opportunities to their pupils. By making this resource widely available, Cambrian Training Company aims to support schools in strengthening their vocational careers provision while ensuring that learners and parents are fully informed about apprenticeship options in Wales.
For parents considering post-16 pathways with their children, apprenticeships in hospitality provide the opportunity to earn while learning, gain industry experience, get their first step on their career ladder and achieve recognised qualifications. With strong employer partnerships across Wales, Cambrian Training Company works closely with businesses to ensure apprentices receive high-quality training aligned with real workplace expectations.
We warmly invite secondary schools, educators and families who would like to know more about work-based learning apprenticeships in hospitality across Wales to contact Cambrian Training Company. By working together, we can continue to inspire Wales’ next generation of chefs, hospitality professionals and industry leaders.
