Nothing Holds Our Winners Back!

Our annual Apprenticeship awards is a time to celebrate the immense achievements of all our learners and employers.

Managing director Mr Arwyn Watkins states that: “These awards showcase the dedication and commitment by individuals and companies to the apprenticeship programme here in Wales.”

This exciting event is held annually at the Metropole Hotel and Spa in Llandrindod Wells, with a 3 course meal and awards ceremony.

Winners are announced on the night in a bilingual presentation with professional photos taken of each winner with their award and certificate.

This year’s winners for each category was as follows:

Foundation Apprentice of the Year: Hannah Ffion Lewis, 22, from In the Welsh Wind Distillery, Tanygroes

Apprentice of the Year: Ben Roberts, 30, M. E. Evans, Overton-on-Dee.

Higher Apprentice of the Year: Nerys Smithwick, 35, The Celtic Collection, Newport.

Outstanding Individuals of the Year: Fionntan Curran, 25, Forte School of Music in Cardiff and Kane Deacon-Roberts, 25, NS James Limited.

Micro Employer of the Year: The Menai Seafood Company, Porth Penrhyn, Bangor.

Small Employer of the Year: In the Welsh Wind Distillery in Tanygroes, Cardigan.

Medium Employer of the Year: Celtica Foods, Cross Hands, Llanelli.

Large and Macro Employer of the Year: The Celtic Collection, Newport and Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth.

However, two of these amazing apprentice winners had an extra barrier to overcome, as they struggle with the learning difficulty, dyslexia.

Both Nerys and Kane have been diagnosed with the invisible disability and yet neither of them have ever let it hold them back from achieving their goals.

They went on to be extremely successful in their apprenticeships and careers, as well as becoming our prestigious award winners.

As an education provider, it is our responsibility to support equality and inclusion and to ensure that, with the right support, apprenticeships are accessed by all.
